“Ouch”
That was the very first word that came out of my mouth the moment I woke up early this morning. I felt a sudden pain down at my back when I tried to sit up. I was still groggy from
sleep so it didn’t register right away why I have this pain. I lay back on the bed until I finally remembered that I have been lifting a lot of furniture yesterday to clean the thick collection of
dust piled underneath them. Well, this is what you get after hours of spring cleaning with poor bending and lifting technique. My back muscles definitely got tired and strained. Although I have had several back pains in the past, I never
treated them. Back pain caused by muscle pain is not a severe case so I just rest and let the pain pass as it will eventually fade after a few days. This time though I need immediate
back pain treatment as I have a baby to take care of and there is increased pain every time I carry her so I browsed the net and these are what I found.

• Nonprescription medication like Ibuprofen is an excellent medication for the short-term treatment of low back pain. However, it would be best to talk with the doctor about using this medication for a long time because of the risk of ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding.
• Ice pack or heat pack work on some people although not proven effective may also be harmful. Don’t place the heat pack directly on skin.
• Prolonged bed rest is associated with longer recovery period so it is best to get moving and resume to normal or near normal activity.
• Stretching or activities that place additional strain on the back are strongly discouraged
• Sleeping with a pillow between the knees while lying on one side may increase comfort. Some doctors even recommend lying on your back with a pillow under your knees.
• Sleeping using an
orthopedic pillow or
neck pain pillow as they are designed to solve or prevent orthopedic problems related to the neck and spine.
Well, these self care at home treatment are certainly easy to follow. Together with body massage, surely, in a couple of days I will bid back pain goodbye. Bye Bye.
